My Favorite Self-Help Books
Over the past five years or so I’ve become a bit of a book lover! Growing up I prided myself in being good in math and science, and I kind of neglected reading and writing. I still don’t love writing to this day to be honest, lol! But as I got older I realized how important reading is! I’ve learned so much from the books I’ve read, and some of them literally changed my life. I don’t think I would have had as much growth, healing, and knowledge if I hadn’t read them! So below I’ve listed just five of my favorite self help books because I could go on and on about ones I love. But I will be sharing more on my newsletter, so make sure you’re subscribed to it here!
The 4 Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
The Four Agreements are as follows:
1. Be impeccable with your word
2. Don’t take anything personally
3. Don’t make assumptions
4. Always do your best
I learned so much from reading about these simple four agreements. I have truly lived by them ever since. They’ve made me look at life and relationships a lot differently!
Attached by Amir Levine & Rachel Heller
This book was extremely eye opening and I highly recommend it to everyone, whether you’re single or in a relationship. I learned that there are three attachment styles: anxious, avoidant, and secure. Learning about these helped me realize which style I am, and the book has given me tools to unlearn some of my old attachment habits and insecurities that were holding me back.
A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson
The author shows how powerful love is, the key to inner peace, and how by practicing love we can make our own lives more fulfilling. This was a pretty deep read and I definitely shed some tears along the way. But ultimately it helped me become more vulnerable, loving, and open to accepting love in ways I hadn’t before.
Million Dollar Habits by Brian Tracey
This is a really straightforward and clear book about how to save money, while also attracting more into your life. Our habits play a major role in how much money we have and the author gave some practical tools that changed the way I view finances.
More Than Enough by Elaine Welteroth
This book is technically an autobiography, but it helped me in so many ways. Elaine was so authentic and honest. Throughout reading it, I found myself relating to so many of her challenges. Like me, Elaine is biracial, and was conflicted about her identity. She also struggled with finding a balance between her personal life and career - especially as a Black editor at Vogue. Reading about how she overcame the obstacles she faced encouraged me to know I can do the same.
I hope you find a new favorite self-help book from this list!
