Holiday Gifts for Kids
As many of you know, I have a bonus son, MJ. If you’re curious about my journey as a bonus mom, check out last week’s post. With all the options available, shopping for kids feels like it’s gotten more challenging over the years. Now, I will say I feel like a pro here. I’ve been shopping for my nieces and nephews for years, and the older they get, the easier it gets because they tell you exactly what they want. Well, sometimes it’s easy 😅.
Here’s MJ’s Christmas list for this year.
When Marcus and I purchased our home, we didn’t account for farmland, lol. So, I’m not sure we can make this list happen. But my takeaway is that MJ loves animals and games/sports. I can work with that!
I’ve curated a list of some gifts I think would be great for any child in your life. MJ just had his 7th birthday in October, so I’ve also added some gifts we got him that I think would be great for Christmas. In addition, I’ve included a few gifts I have previously purchased for my nieces and nephews.
Happy shopping!
Nintendo Switch: MJ has had this for a few years and loves it! What’s great about the switch is that you can play directly on the device or hook it up to your TV and play on a bigger screen or with friends.
Mario Cart for the Switch - This is a fun game for the entire family to play together! Marcus and I play it all the time, even without MJ, lol!
Custom NBA Jersey - We gifted this to MJ last Christmas; it was his favorite gift! We were able to customize it with his name and favorite number. We chose a Lakers jersey because that’s his favorite team, but you can choose any team you like.
Lebron XXI Sneakers - MJ is at the age where he loves sneakers. Instead of loving Jordans (like we grew up on), he loves Lebrons! He has two pairs, and I just came across these. Marcus and I decided that we’ll get them for him this Christmas.
Apple iPad - I know that tablets are a tricky subject, but we feel this was an age-appropriate gift for MJ. We purchased a refurbished one for his birthday, which looks brand new. I would recommend a refurbished iPad if you want to save money.
Indoor Basketball Hoop - Another favorite of MJ’s. He uses this all the time.
Football Target Toss Game - If the kid you’re shopping for loves football, this is a great game. We play as a family, and it’s easy for others to join in. It’s also entertaining!
Nerf Football - This makes throwing and catching the football a little easier! It’s excellent for beginners.
Minecraft Board Game - MJ LOVES Minecraft! However, we try to be mindful of his screen time. So, we purchased this as one of his Christmas gifts this year. It should be fun to enjoy something he loves as a family without added screen time.
Pokémon Ultra Rare Starter Bundle - I guess the kids are into Pokemon again! This is a great starter pack for kids who want to collect cards.
Madden PlayStation 5 Game - Marcus has a Playstation, and MJ will sometimes play on his console. Because he loves football, we thought the new Madden would be a fun addition.
NBA 2K24 - He also loves basketball, so we wanted to add the NBA 2K option for the PlayStation.
For Other Age Groups
Dinosaur Race Track - A great toy for the 3 to 4-year-old in your life! MJ loved it when he was younger, and I’ve actually purchased it as a gift for another child. It’s always a big hit!
Princess Dress-Up Set - I got this for my (then 4) year-old niece, and she still dresses up with this today! I love gifts that have longevity.
Skechers Slip-Ins-Galaxy Lights Sneakers - I just ordered these for my 5-year-old niece, and they’re so cute! What kid doesn’t love shoes that light up?
Some honorable mentions that I think are great are opening or depositing into savings accounts for your kids if you can. Trips, experiences, and lessons. That could be anything from art and music lessons to sports lessons. And, of course, I have to include pets. If you feel like your children are ready, and you’re ready for that commitment as a family, this is always an iconic gift. Maybe not four hens, four cows, four sheep, and four pigs, but I’m sure you’ll find the perfect gift for your kid(s).
