How Often Should You Cut Your Hair?
I think this is a topic that is pretty misunderstood amongst women with all hair types. Whether you have natural hair, straight hair, or relaxed hair, everyone has a different opinion on it. I'm not even sure if there is a "correct" answer to how often or how little you should cut your hair, but I'll share what I've learned over the past 7 years of being natural.Since I have been natural for so long, you'd think that I would have reached my goal of waist length hair by now. But I've made a lot of mistakes during my natural hair journey such as dying it too much, getting heat damage, and cutting it too often. I used to think that you need to cut your hair every two months or so to make your hair grow faster (at least thats what my stylist told me). But obviously, it just made my hair remain the same length! All the hair I ever grew was just cut right off! Duhhh. Why didn't I realize that?? Pretty obvious right? Lol so nowww I only cut my hair twice a year-- every 6 or 7 months or so at the DevaChan salon. If you don't damage your ends and split them then this is really all you need. You could probably even get away with only cutting it once a year if you are really good at taking care of your ends by sealing them and being gentle while detangling. But I like getting DevaCuts specifically because it keeps my hair layered which gives it a better shape, makes the curls pop, and makes it a lot easier to manage. Also, sometimes in between my haircuts I might trim my ends a TINY bit, and I mean--hardly anything. I'll look at every single strand and cut only the ends that are split and need to be cut to prevent them from causing more damage. It sounds tedious but it is actually easier than you'd think. So if you want your hair to grow just focus on keeping your ends healthy and you can keep the haircuts to a minimum :).
