Feature Friday! Shinestruck
Today is feature friday and we have the lovely Shinestruck!! She is truly a gem and a sweetheart! I really enjoyed reading about her natural hair journey and knowing some of the secrets to her lovely fro! You will too! ;).1. Name and where you are from:Hello guys! My name is Priscilla and I am from New York City.2. Tell us about yourself! Aside from being obsessed with natural hair? lol I'm in my late 20's and I am also a college student majoring in child education. I love children and I can't wait to teach! My goal is to also teach internationally for the less fortunate countries that are in need. In my spare time you can catch me blogging about natural hair and all that jazz.3. How long have you been natural and what made you decide to do so?I'm almost going on 2 years of being natural approx.1 yr and 8months. (woo hoo) =D Growing up in the Dominican culture, women are not usually taught to embrace their natural hair. Typically if your hair is not straight and silky it is most likely considered to be “bad hair”. And I guess it didn't help that my mom was also a hair dresser and she always had my hair blow-dried even as a kid. So I never really knew what my hair texture really was. Aside form that I experimented with relaxers, every hair color, you name it and I had it lol and all types of weaves. It was so fried, it was just a hot mess. So with a combination of breakage, heat damage and excessively dying my hair throughout the years, my hair eventually started to fall out. It was beyond over processed. One day I literally did some research online, on why my hair was falling out and stumbled upon all these lovely naturalistas and bloggers educating women on natural hair and I have not looked back since then. :)4. How would you describe your hair? What does it mean to you?My hair has a mind of it's own lol, it's funky it's versatile, untamed, indecisive and does what it wants, just like me. With a combination of different textures, coils and kinks. My hair will always be part of me, but it definitely does not define me. :::I am not my hair::: song drops lmaoo5. What is your natural hair regimen (including the products you use)?My hair regimen right now consists of co-washing weekly with Shea Moisture Conditioner and I just started using this Hair Rules Product called "Daily Cleansing Cream" which is a moisturizing no suds shampoo. It feels just like conditioner! Then I use Kinky Curly's "Knot Today" as a base, finger rake with a leave in either Luv Naturals or Koils by Nature. I use these at the moment, but I do admit, I am a product junkie and tend to switch/try out different products. Afterwards I seal with an oil, either Jamaican Black Castor Oil, or African Shea Butter. And that's what my WNG's typically consist of. Afterwards I will usually preserve it with a pineapple, or do a twist out and consistently keep my hair moisturized until its time for wash day again. Also since my hair is color treated I deep condition frequently, using my Heutiful Hair Steamer and use Curl Junkie's repair me once a month as a reconstructive treatment.6. How do you retain your length and keep your hair healthy?I just make sure my hair is constantly moisturized, deep condition frequently (especially since I have color treated hair), eat well because healthy hair starts from the inside :), sleep with a satin pillow and maintaining low manipulation through protective hairstyling.7. Who is your hair crush?I absolutely love Taren Guy's hair.8. What are your favorite natural hair styles?I'm such a wash and go kind of gal. I loveee doing chunky twist outs, other than that I'll always wear my fro, unless I'm feeling lazy then bunning time it is.9. What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned during your natural hair journey?Patience! learning that my hair would grow in due time and stop obsessing over length. Just learning to love every stage of my hair journey, they don't call it a journey for nothing lol.10. Is there a website/blog/Twitter/Instagram where we can find you?Yes I have a natural hair blog on : www.Shinestruck.comIG: ShinestruckYoutube: ImShinestruckPinterest: ShinestruckFacebook: ShinestruckComTwitter: Shinestruck12. Is there any other advice you’d like to leave us with?We never end up regretting the things that we actually do. We end up regretting what we don’t. We regret the chances we didn’t take. We regret the things that we didn’t say. We regret the opportunities we let pass. Remember to do what makes you happy =DUntil next time,
