Yayayaya I'm so excited because today is Feature Friday with one of my favorite curlfriends!! I actually had the privilege of meeting this jewel at @Halfietruth's Curls and Cocktails and she is such a beautiful person! I am so happy to have her feature and share details about her amazing huge curly fro! Happy reading!!1. Name and where you are from:My name is Mel Burgos and I'm from the Boogie Down Bronx.2. Tell us about yourself!OK! Here it goes:

  • I am Puerto Rican
  • I am a Management Analyst for the US Department of Health and Human Services
  • I served 10 years in the United States Navy
  • I am a new blogger
  • I love french fries
  • I am obsessed with Q-Tip and curly hair

3. How long have you been natural and what made you decide to do so?Well I transitioned for a year after my first relaxer when I was 13 and then I big chopped in 2010 - due to a horrible hairdresser experience soooo I just made 3 years of being natural!4. How would you describe your hair? What does it mean to you?Wild, unruly, and unpredictable - well just like me. My hair doesn't define me, its just part of me.5. What is your natural hair regimen (including the products you use)?I try to wash my hair at least every 5 days - I also try to steam my hair at that time. I wash and condition/ detangle using the Dark and Lovely Au Naturale anti shrinkage line. After I put in my styling combo of Sebastian Potion 9 and Ecostyler gel, I diffuse my hair under low heat for no more than 15 minutes and I seal my ends with either 100% argan, jojoba or grapeseed oil.6. How do you retain your length and keep your hair healthy? I retain my length by trying to practice low hair manipulation, maintaining a well balanced diet including a huge amount of water consumption, and double dosing on my biotin vitamins! **warning- hair grows rapidly everywhere LOL!7. I LOVE your color! How are you able to have highlights without damaging your hair?Thank you Jess! My colorist is extremely talented and oh so patient. I knew I wanted color and did not want to bleach my hair so she customized two colors to create some dimension and just applied it to the ends of my hair. She told to me include steaming into my routine so I swear by my Huetiful steamer and I try to steam my hair every "wash" day.8. What is your favorite style?I love wash and go's! I have tried doing 2 strand twists and braid outs but they just don't work for me because of the haircut I have - Trust me it was an epic FAIL!9. Who is your hair crush? That is really a hard question!!! Ok here's my answer. My ultimate hair crush is Diana Ross. I mean despite her beautiful voice and amazing style - everyone pretty much associates her with her gorgeous mane. Then there's Mel B from the Spice Girls who was a HUGE inspiration for me to embrace my hair and lastly and I PROMISE I'm not being biased (ok maybe a little) but my niece Zoë has the most phenomenal head of hair I have every seen on a 3 year old.10. What are your favorite natural hair styles?I love marley twists, locs, box braids and of course afros.11. What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned during your natural hair journey?I would say if you find a great hairdresser - stay loyal! I found mine by spotting a girl that had the style that I wanted and she referred me to my current hairdresser. I've been going to her for the past 2 years and I don't allow anyone else to touch my hair. I mean I travel almost 4 hours for a haircut … I know - DRAMATIC!12. Is there a website/blog/Twitter/Instagram where we can find you?Blog: www.rockyorizos.blogspot.comInstagram: @rock_yo_rizos13. Is there any other advice you’d like to leave us with?Patience and consistency is the key to healthy hair. Do your research and product testing to find what works with your hair and stick with it! It will save you a lot of $$$$$$Isn't she awesome!? I love her!!Until next time, jesssig
