Feature Friday! Bevin
My name is Bevin Ashley Anderson and I’m from Richmond, VA…RVA!2. Tell us about yourself!I am a recent graduate of VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University) and currently work as a PR Media Specialist for a pre-professional youth music school. I am also a blogger! I co-blog a fashion/lifestyle blog called Hole In Jean Pocket . Our site is a documentation of my best friend and I, with a take on our journey to becoming our ideal selves. Our goal is simply to inspire others and foster an environment that encourages everyone to follow their heart and dreams.3. How long have you been natural?I have been natural majority of my life. I later permed my hair during high school and big chopped about 2 ½ years ago. Since then I have been embracing the curls that for so long I denied.5. How would you describe your hair? What does it mean to you?I have tight, springy curls. I often attribute my hair to a poodle or lion’s mane. For me hair is just hair…whether it’s short, long, straight or curly as long as it’s healthy I’m happy.6. I love your style! Do you feel like your hair is apart of your unique, personal style?Yes, I style my hair to go a long or compliment the style of the outfit I’m wearing. I tend to rotate between the same 3-4 styles and am trying to get more into sporting my mane in funkier ways.7. What is your natural hair regimen (including the products you use)?Every 2-3 weeks I will do a hot oil treatment with extra virgin olive oil, following up with Shea Moisture Deep Condition. Every time I deep condition I sit under my Huetiful Hair Steamer for deep penetration. During the week I usually co-wash my hair every 2-3 days with Tresemme Naturals Conditioner and run a small amount of Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curl through it. For cleansing I use apple cider vinegar and for oiling and added moisture between co-washing I use Carols Daughter Hair Mimosa or Shea Moisture Curl Smoothie.
To retain length I make sure to moisturize and condition my ends. I also try to detangle my hair with my fingers instead of using a comb or brush. To keep my hair healthy I follow my regimen and try to eat healthy foods…beauty starts from the inside out!
I love wearing my hair out! If not sporting my curly fro, you’ll also see me rocking the classic pineapple.10. Who is your hair crush? My current hair crush is IGer Halfietruths! I absolutely love her hair, curly or straight. She has the perfect length and a nice thickness.11. What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned during your natural hair journey? My greatest lesson is that with natural hair you really have to embrace and love your own hair/curl pattern. So often we fall in love with other’s hair (which is fine) but neglect to find the beauty in our own. When I was younger I didn’t like my curls, I was sometimes teased as a kid for wearing my hair out and took to trying to achieve styles that were more acceptable by my peers. So on my journey to re-growing my natural hair, I have learned to appreciate my curls and encourage everyone to do the same.12. Is there a website/blog/Twitter/Instagram where we can find you?Yes, my blog address is www.holeinjeanpocket.com Twitter: @holeinjeanpocke IG: @listentob
